The socio-cultural centres De Kroon and Archipel19 in Sint-Agatha-Berchem are looking for an artist interested in co-creation, who wants to develop an artistic programme that creates connection in the public space, together with local residents. Are you someone who knows how to harness the power of imagery and nonverbal communication to bring people closer together? Would you like to work with an intergenerational group of residents around Parc Pirsoul? Then this project is for you.
Co-creation with the neighbourhood
You will develop an artistic programme with and for the neighbourhood. Together with residents, you will work on creating playful, visual installations in the public space. The end result will be presented at Visual Festival Visuel on 21 June 2026, a wordless arts festival centred on image, movement and interaction. The festival is a collaboration between the French-speaking socio-cultural centre Archipel19 and the Dutch-speaking socio-cultural centre De Kroon.
What will you do?
As an artist, you will design a co-creative programme:
- You will organise contact sessions with the neighbourhood in the park or in socio-cultural centre De Kroon/Archipel19 during the period March - June 2026.
- You will be actively engaged in the neighbourhood and work with residents and local partners. From idea to end result, co-creation is the core focus, with essential input from an intergenerational group of participants. Socio-cultural centre De Kroon and Archipel19 will put together this group of residents for the project. Archipel10 and De Kroon will also support you during the process in further empowering this group of neighbourhood residents.
- You will focus on language-transcending connection through images and action, not (only) through words.
- Together, you will develop a visible, tangible and sustainable end result that lasts beyond the project.
- You will work with the target group towards a powerful artistic end result that is supported by the neighbourhood.
- Along with the socio-cultural worker at the socio-cultural centre, you will generate involvement on the part of the target group and partners, and act with respect for the participants.
- You will pay special attention to those whose voice is not always heard and will actively seek out these voices.
- You will work within the specified budget.
Objectives of the project
- Co-creation with the neighbourhood
You will work with a diverse, intergenerational group of neighbourhood residents. The group will grow through the process: everyone is welcome, with no barriers or exclusivity. - Non-verbal and visual communication
We are looking for connection beyond words. What if we don't understand each other - but do understand through image, movement or gesture? - Activating the public space
The installations will take place in and around Parc Pirsoul. We want to rediscover and temporarily transform this venue together through art. - Leaving a lasting impression
The end result is not just a snapshot, but a lasting trace that remains visible. After the festival, the works can be housed at socio-cultural centre De Kroon. - Connection at different levels
From streets to municipalities, from local residents to festival-goers. During the festival, people from outside Sint-Agatha-Berchem can also learn about the creativity and connectedness of this place.
Budget
There is a total budget of €19,500 for the project. This includes all the costs.
